2 Sisters Food Group has announced an investment of £5m to create 250 plus jobs at its Coupar Angus plant near Perth, Scotland to double its cutting capacity in the portions department.

While the UK meat processing company will invest around £3.5m, the remainder amount will come from the Scottish government under the Food Processing Marketing and Co-operation Grant Scheme.

The funding secured by 2 Sisters from the Scottish government is part of the £3.59m support announced by the latter to local food processors.

2 Sisters will also use the investment for the development of existing employees and for buying new equipment needed to increase production capacity.

The company said that the investment will secure long-term future for the supply of Scottish chicken from the Coupar Angus plant to UK supermarkets.

It also said that the move is in line with its strategic aim of creating more efficient, shorter supply chains which eventually reduce food waste, logistical and distribution costs.

2 Sisters UK Poultry managing director Keith Packer said: “We are committed to providing fresh, quality produce to our customers and creating a shorter supply chain enables us to do just that.

“We have always said we will invest when it is the right thing to do for the business, but the timing and conditions have to be right. This is a great example of that.”

2 Sisters revealed that the new roles will be created at all levels and departments, ranging from production operatives to technical management along with two new engineering apprenticeship roles.

The company said that its HR and recruitment teams will be working with various organizations to fill the jobs, including local job centers and through partnership with Skills Development Scotland.

Earlier, this month, 2 Sisters said that it will create 300 new roles and 20 new apprentices at its Devon poultry processing hub. In this regard, the company announced an investment at its Willand factory wher it will be expanding operations to increase its cutting and packing capacity.
