CV Sciences launches immune support supplement

CV Sciences has announced the launch of a condition-specific dietary supplement product called CV Defense. The product is designed to support barrier immunity, innate immunity and adaptive immunity with its formula including Gencor’s Levagen+ PEA (Palmitoylethanolamide).

PEA was selected for its similarity with CBD in having anti-inflammatory and neuro-protective properties. Unlike CBD, PEA is an endogenous fatty amide which is produced as a direct response and repair mechanism to inflammation and pain. PEA acts to inhibit the fatty acid amide hydrolase, which breaks down endocannabinoids in the brain and downregulates pain and inflammatory response in the body.

The company looked to PEA specifically for its safety and effectiveness in moderating the endocannabinoid system. It looked to research conducted by Nobel laureate Dr Rita Levi-Montalcini in 1993 who studied PEA’s beneficial impact on immune health in six double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trials involving more than 3,000 participants. Levagen+ PEA, which has also been studied extensively by Gencor for its use as a CBD alternative, is formulated with LipiSperse technology. The technology allows PEA particles to disperse freely, translating to increased functionality and bioavailability, the company says.

CV Defense™ is part of the company’s expansion of its non-CBD immunity products. The company plans to continue with its effort to broaden distribution, which will include e-commerce retailers, not currently accessible by CBD-based products.

“We are pleased to partner with CV Science, Inc. in their effort to make non-CBD immunity products available to a broader market,” said Chase Shryoc, Vice President of Sales and Business Development. “Given the demands of the recent global public health crisis, we feel that the commitment to scientifically-supported ingredients which have been tested for their safety and ability to meet global regulations are of the utmost importance. Now is the time for our communities to focus on healthy lifestyle habits and support of a healthy immune system.”
