Germany-based natural dietary fibers specialist Taiyo and Asiros, a Danish fruit powders company, have teamed up to develop and market two gut-supporting high-fiber fruit powder ranges.

Asiros creates the blends that combine the benefits of Taiyo’s clinically proven prebiotic Sunfiber with the natural effects of individual fruits in different quality grades.

The cooperation with Taiyo will enable the creation of “innovative prebiotic juice powders” made with Sunfiber, says Carsten Aalund, COO and commercial director of Asiros Nordic.

Other applications for the BerryShield Premium Conventional and BerryShield Organic ranges include high-quality functional F&B and nutraceuticals within the EMEA region.

The first products in the lines are expected this summer and will come from the lesser-known berry varieties, such as tart cherry, elderberry and lingonberry. The powders can be consumed pure or processed in premium applications.

Joining forces for plant-based health
The collaboration brings together the companies’ knowledge in natural plant-based premium ingredients.

The new fruit powder ranges are based on Taiyo’s 100 percent natural, ISO-certified dietary fiber Sunfiber, which has been clinically proven to have a positive influence on digestion and lowering the glycemic index, according to the company.

The fiber is derived from partially hydrolyzed guar gum (PHGG), which has also been shown to be compatible with a low FODMAP diet.

Meanwhile, Asiros is a certified producer of organic and conventional products from natural raw fruits and plant-based ingredients.

“Taiyo and Asiros are pursuing similar goals by bringing products to market that are technologically convincing and can offer added health value,” says Dr. Stefan Siebrecht, managing director of Taiyo.

Added-value foods rise
Functional and fortified foods have seen increased interest this year as consumers turn to F&B that can support holistic health.

Technological advances to improve the health benefits of certain ingredients is highlighted in Innova Market Insights’ sixth top trend for 2021: “Nutrition Hacking.”

Both gut health-supporting ingredients, as well as colorful fruits high in antioxidants, have proven popular during the pandemic, as demand for immunity-signaling NPD soared.

Promoting provenance
Asiros’ products boast a strong traceability story. The harvest for these powders, which are destined for the EU, is exclusively from Danish and European contract farming. Local harvest “guarantees consistently high quality,” notes Asiros.

Traced production to the farm also taps into Innova Market Insights’ top trend for 2021: “Transparency Triumphs,” amid increased consumer demand to know wher their food ingredients come from.

In other premium powders, Memore launched whole food powders that can be added to water or smoothies to improve cognitive performance.
