Plant-based and clean-label food manufacturer Fresh Factory has acquired Phyter Food to increase manufacturing capabilities and expand into the rapidly progressing bar and snacks segment.

Financial and other terms of the deal have not been revealed.

Established in 2016 by Gloria Athanis, Chef David Choi and Jeff Adeszko, Phyter Food is engaged in the production of produce-forward and dessert-like refrigerated bars.

The deal will allow Phyter Food to be a part of a larger company that offers more resources.

Phyter Food co-founder and creator Chef David Choi said: “We are very excited to be joining the Fresh Factory family.

“This will only help further our mission to create delicious plant-based snacks that support a healthy lifestyle. We are confident that the Fresh Factory aligns perfectly with our founding principles. We look forward to continuing Phyter’s growth and development as part of this innovative company.”

based in Carol Stream, Illinois, US, the Fresh Factory manufactures plant-based food made with fresh produce and recognisable ingredients and partners with emerging food and beverage brands.

It has built a vertically integrated platform to accelerate the growth of new brands in the space. Phyter Food focuses on healthy products and therefore its mission matches well with the one of the Fresh Factory.

Fresh Factory president and COO Bill Besenhofer said: “We are really excited about teaming up with Phyter.

“Phyter will give us the ability to reach more customers in a food category that we have been looking to get into. This acquisition will help us to continue our expansion into all corners of the plant-based food space.”

Completion of the deal is expected to take place in July.
