Researchers from the University of Illinois Chicago have claimed that liquorice may play a role in preventing certain types of cancer. However, they reminded readers that it may affect blood pressure, interact with certain medications, and cause serious adverse effects when used excessively.

In other news, Spain’s Guardia Civil have uncovered a sophisticated saffron fraud, which it says could have made the alleged criminals more than €3 million in profit. The Law enforcement agency made 11 arrests across several Spanish cities.  

And finally, a recent study, aiming to assess the impact of washing poultry on kitchen contamination, has found that bacteria can spread whether you wash your chicken or not. It concluded that cleaning hands and surfaces well is critical to stop pathogens spreading.
