UK-based ingredient supplier Cambridge Commodities has unveiled Librifoam, a silicone anti-foaming agent. It can be used in sports nutrition, health and well-being and the food and beverage industries.

Librifoam is positioned as being suitable for use in applications including powdered protein blends, thickeners, water treatment, evaporation and dehydration of foodstuffs.

The agent is used to enhance food manufacturing productivity and improve finished product efficiency, as well as overcoming product development challenges.

Applications include powdered protein blends, thickeners, water treatment, evaporation and dehydration of foodstuffs.

“Librifoam is the perfect partner to minimize the unwanted foam in a variety of applications. Librifoam helps to ensure finished products are high-quality and deliver a great consumer experience,” says Zeke Stevens, product development specialist.

Librifoam is an emulsion that diffuses in hot and cold aqueous systems with ease., notes the company. It requires only mild agitation to fully disperse in the foaming system.

The agent is also marketed as a cost-effective solution to the enhancement of production processes within the food and beverage industry as well as in an array of aqueous processes.

Addressing clear protein beverages
Zeke adds: “One of the most exciting innovations within the functional beverage space right now is clear protein shake applications. It’s a unique alternative to the milkshake-style products that you would commonly see in the market and Librifoam helps during the manufacturing process.”

Recent movers in the clear beverage space include Arla Food Ingredients, which offers a 100 percent whey protein isolate ingredient that is formulated for clear protein beverages.

Also in this space, FrieslandCampina DMV recently launched an “ultra-clean” whey protein isolate.

Protein waters, according to UK manufacturer Volac, will continue to rise in popularity. These functional beverages are high in protein levels and contain a low-calorie intake.

A growing range
Last year, Cambridge Commodities also expanded its offerings to include premium softgel formulations that cater to a wide range of consumer needs.

Last summer, the company also launched a new probiotic strain called ActiBio BS01 in response to the growing trend for food fortification.

Within the F&B realm, it added two new options to its popular ProEarth range of plant-based proteins: ProEarth Fava Bean 88 percent Protein and ProEarth Chickpea 70 percent Protein.

These launches all followed the acquisition of US organic food company Ultimate Superfoods. Following the acquisition, Ultimate Superfoods’ raw and organic superfood ingredient business merged with the US arm of Cambridge Commodities operating under the Cambridge Commodities Group.
